BENNINGTON, VT — BarrSternberg, Moss, Silver & Munson PC, one of Southern Vermont’s most respected and established law firms, proudly announces that Alexander “Al” M. Dean has been named a shareholding partner, effective January 1, 2026.
Since joining BarrSternberg in 2018, Al has become a cornerstone of the firm’s litigation practice, earning a reputation for meticulous advocacy, strategic insight, and an unwavering commitment to client success. Al has secured favorable results in civil trials, appeals across a range of legal matters, from disputes involving secured loans and liens to protective orders for survivors of interpersonal violence.
Al’s practice spans plaintiffs’ personal injury, general civil litigation, appellate practice, contract disputes, debtor and consumer rights, and professional licensing defense. As a partner, he will continue to expand BarrSternberg’s full-service capabilities while advancing the firm’s mission of delivering exceptional results for individuals and families across Vermont.
Founding Partner Neil S. Moss reflected on Al’s advancement:
“We are proud to welcome Al as a partner at BarrSternberg. He embodies the dedication to excellence, integrity, and client advocacy that has defined our firm for more than 40 years. His strength in appellate practice and ability to navigate complex civil litigation have been invaluable to our clients and our firm. We are confident he will continue to be a leader and a powerful advocate for those we serve.”
Prior to joining BarrSternberg, Al clerked for the late Honorable Kathy C. Qasim in the New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery Division. He earned his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School in 2017, where he served as Senior Managing Editor of the Vermont Law Review. Deeply committed to the legal profession and the community, Al currently serves on the Board of the Bennington County Bar Association, is President of the Samuel Blackmer Law Library, and chairs the Vermont Bar Association’s Court Users Group. Alongside partner David Silver, he also serves as an attorney advisor to the University of Vermont’s Students for Legal Services program.
BarrSternberg’s established partners—Neil S. Moss, David Silver, and Mike Munson—have built a formidable reputation in personal injury, criminal defense, and family law. They have recovered millions of dollars for personal injury victims, including helping to settle the landmark PFOA class action environmental pollution case, and have successfully defended hundreds of criminal matters. This reputation, forged over nearly half a century, continues to attract top legal talent and reinforce the firm’s standing as a leader in Vermont’s legal community.
Reflecting on his new role, Al stated:
“It is an honor to be welcomed as a partner at a firm that has shaped Vermont’s legal landscape and, most importantly, served its communities with distinction. I am proud to continue working alongside this exceptional team to pursue the best possible outcomes for our clients.”
